Princeton Review Lists Michigan Tech Among 385 Best Colleges

Michigan Technological University has once again made The Princeton Review’s list of best colleges. The organization released its “Best 385 Colleges” Tuesday. Michigan Tech has made the list since it began in 1994.

The Princeton Review does not rank the schools numerically. The college admissions services organization, which is not affiliated with Princeton University, chose the top 385 from more than 2,000 colleges and universities for its 28th annual list. Michigan Tech is one of only three public universities in Michigan to make the list.

“We chose the 385 colleges for this edition as our ‘best’ overall, academically, based on data we gathered in 2018-19 from more than a thousand school administrators about their schools’ academic programs and offerings,” said Robert Franek, The Princeton Review’s editor in chief and lead author of the book.

“We are well aware, however, that applicants need more than an academic assessment to choose the colleges best for them. Our survey asks the students about their professors, administrators, school services, campus culture and other facets of life at their schools.”

The survey is based on data from surveys of more than 140,000 students at the 385 schools in the book. Students were asked to rate their schools on dozens of topics important to applicants and their parents.

Students answer the survey by selecting one of five answers that range across a scale from “strongly agree” to “strongly disagree” or “excellent” to “poor.”

Comments from Michigan Tech students support the University’s reputation as a top-tier school and note that Tech provides, “an atmosphere that nurtures learning and puts students first.”
