About the EMT Program:
The Emergency Medical Technician program at Michigan Tech is offered as a two-course sequence:
BL 3001 - Emergency Medical Technician 1 (5 Credits)
EMT-1 is the first in a two-course sequence that prepares students to evaluate and treat medical and traumatic emergencies in pre-hospital and emergency situations. Students learn about human health, pathophysiology, emergency medicine and treatments, and critical thinking to help them assess and treat patients while preparing for the EMT exam. This course is offered in fall semesters and permission of the instructor is required to register.
BL 3002 - Emergency Medical Technician 2 (5 credits)
EMT-2 is the second course in the sequence and build on the knowledge and skills learned in EMT-1. Students apply their training in preparation for the national EMT exam. This course is offered in spring semesters, has BL3001 is a pre-requisite, and permission of the instructor is required to register.
Students will complete 184 classroom hours across both courses, along with a minimum of 40 clinical hours with Mercy EMS and Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital.
Upon successful completion of the Michigan Tech Emergency Medical Technician program, students will be trained to a level that meets or exceeds the National Standards Curriculum and the State of Michigan Education requirements.
