Research Profile—Larry Sutter

Larry Sutter Larry Sutter knows about icy roads, having lived in the snowy Upper Peninsula for most of his adult life. As a driver, he applauds state departments of transportation as they improve their deicing practices.

As an expert in concrete, he wonders whether these new chemicals are eating away the highways.

Nine states have hired the associate professor in Michigan Tech's School of Technology to address that concern.

To accomplish his task, he uses one of the best collections of optical equipment in the country for analyzing pavement materials, including an environmental scanning electron microscope.

Larry Sutter is in the forefront of protecting the future of America's highways. But, like the other faculty in the School of Technology, he is also interested in helping you decide how to create your future.
