As a civil engineering technician, you'll work on all types of construction projects-airports, bridges, highways, dams, pipelines, and high-rise buildings.
On the job, you'll
- inspect construction projects
- survey construction and property
- test materials
- do computer-aided drafting (CAD)
- test soil, concrete, and bituminous mixtures
The curriculum includes course work in CAD, hydraulics, cemented aggregates, soils (concrete and asphalt) surveying, contracts and specifications, and technical drawing.
You can work for state and local transportation departments, as well as companies such as Rowe Incorporated, Sundberg Carlson & Associates, UP Engineers and Architects, Atwell-Hicks, Inc., and Wilcox Associates, Inc.
