Each
trademark has a specific purpose.
- The University
seal has a limited and narrowly defined use. It is reserved
for all Michigan Tech formal documents and official papers.
The seal is also displayed on items and publications that
announce, promote, or commemorate formal University functions,
such as the commencement ceremonies.
- The Michigan Tech
logotype has widespread use. It is placed on all University
internal and external communications and publications. University
packages, letterhead, business cards, note pads, signs,
motor vehicles, uniforms, promotional and recruiting items,
and equipment must all bear the logotype.
- The husky dog
logo and script are used to identify Michigan Tech intercollegiate
sports activities, sports promotional items and publications,
and athletic equipment.
The use of the MTU
name, logos, seals, and/or other symbols of Michigan Technological
University in any commercial venture requires prior written
approval from the Intellectual Property Office.
The University reserves
the right to refuse permission to use its trademarks in cases
that involve use considered in poor or questionable taste.
