Education

As part of our mission, RISE looks to encourage education through training, outreach, and professional development by collaborating with the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences (CLS). The department educates future teachers and provides professional development for current STEAM teachers. Within CLS, the Division of Teacher Education has a mission to prepare quality educators who enrich the lives of all learners through the application of pedagogical, content, and technological knowledge, as well as their dedication to lifelong learning, reflection, leadership, and collaboration.

Teacher Professional Development

All educators with current certification may enroll in CLS’ Teacher Professional Development courses. These courses address contemporary issues in education, new developments in professional practice, innovations in curriculum and materials, instructional techniques and technologies, content-based pedagogy, and new developments in academic areas that strengthen teachers' content knowledge. Courses may be used to fulfill requirements for renewal of Provisional Teaching Certificates, to qualify for the Professional Teaching Certificate, and for renewal of the professional certificate. They may also be used as electives in the Master of Science in Applied Science Education degree program and/or the graduate certificate program in STEAM Education.
