Trainees in our NIH T32 program in Health-Integrated Technologies have access to state-of-the-art facilities and specialized equipment at Michigan Technological University. These resources provide hands-on experience and support for innovative biomedical and health research.
Advanced Research Facilities
Our cutting-edge research facilities provide participants with the tools and resources needed to succeed. More details about each facility can be found below:
- Applied Chemical and Morphological Analysis Laboratory (ACMAL): Participants can explore materials characterization using advanced microscopy techniques, including SEM/TEM, XPS, and AFM. This lab enhances research in both biological and synthetic materials.
- Genomics Sequencing Laboratory: Located within the Health Research Institute, this facility helps advance research in genetic and transcriptomic analysis by offering access to next-generation sequencing and digital PCR.
- High-Performance Computing Facility (HPCF): Michigan Tech's shared high-performance computing infrastructure, Superior, is available to all researchers, including T32 Trainees.
Key Research Institutes and Centers
As T32 trainees, participants become part of an interdisciplinary community that connects engineering, science, and health. Additional information can be found below about what is available for trainees.
- Health Research Institute (HRI): Focuses on addressing pressing health care challenges, including cardiovascular health, vaccine manufacturing, and biomaterials. Participants will find mentorship and funding opportunities.
- H-STEM Engineering and Health Technologies Complex: State-of-the-art building supporting biomedical and health research. With access to modern laboratories and classrooms, participants can have hands-on training with the HRI participating faculty, fostering collaborative research.
- Translational Health Engineering Research Center (THERC): The Translational Health Engineering Research Center (THERC) at Michigan Technological University in West Michigan is a nationally visible research hub, promoting on- and off-campus collaborations with industry, researchers, and clinicians, and creating an environment that enhances external funding.
- The Joint Center of Biocomputing and Digital Health (BDH): A collaborative research institute established in Spring 2021 by the Institute of Computing and Cybersystems (ICC) and the Health Research Institute (HRI). The research institute was co-founded by HRI members Jingfeng Jiang (BME) and Jinshan Tang.
