Biography

Bapi Pahar is a Senior Research Engineer Scientist at the Translational Health Engineering Research Center, Michigan Technological University. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Master's, and Ph.D. in India. Dr. Pahar obtained his M.B.A., with a focus on entrepreneurship and international business, from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, USA. He was a postdoctoral research fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Michael McChesney and Dr. Marta Marthas at the University of California, Davis, CA, USA. In 2005, Dr. Pahar joined the faculty at Tulane University, where he served as an associate professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology and held a joint appointment with the Tulane School of Public Health. Additionally, he has held positions as Senior Study Director at the Trudeau Institute and as an Immunologist at the NIH/NIAID Integrated Research Facility.

Research 

Dr. Pahar has spent over 17 years at Tulane University advancing research on HIV-induced changes in the mucosal immune system, vaccine development, and correlates of protection. His work spans mucosal immunology, epithelial cell biology, organoid and animal model development, and the function of mucosal regulatory T- and B-cells. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and secured major funding from the NIH, amfAR, and NSF. In addition to serving on editorial boards, grant review panels, and scientific committees, his current research explores immune responses to infectious diseases with the goal of developing novel antiviral drugs and vaccines that induce sterilizing immunity. Dr. Pahar is commited to promoting biomedical research in collaboration with Michigan State University, other academic institutions, healthcare providers, and industry partners by developing and implementing innovative medical solutions.
