The Grid and Power Generation Group performs modeling across scales, from individual components to full grid systems. This work evaluates grid performance, power flow, and system-level interactions, as well as the behavior of power generation assets including internal combustion engines.
APS LABS has led multiple grid studies assessing the cost and emissions associated with electrical energy generation under varying operational scenarios. In addition, APS LABS can operate independently from the main electrical grid, with 2 MW of bidirectional power capability and on-site combined heat and power units. This infrastructure enables controlled islanded operation, creating opportunities to pair simulation studies with validation using real operating data.
