Biography

  •   Adrienne has been a long-standing championing of broad engagement and equal access for individuals from all backgrounds and identities.  Prior to leading ADVANCE, she led the  American Society for Engineering Education’s Commission on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion  and worked with other members of the ADVANCE team to establish the  Early Career Management Committees at Michigan Tech.  In each role in her career, she has worked to engage majority individuals in conversations and actions on DEI.  Within ADVANCE, she leads the ARL initiative which engages deans, department chairs, and directors in capacity building workshops and peer to peer learning to better advocate for, include, support, and empower underrepresented minorities at Michigan Tech.

Biography

  • Karen is a graduate research assistant with ADVANCE and provides valuable perspective on program selection, implementation, and assessment. Her work centers around statistical modeling and tools such as social network analysis, cluster analysis, and data visualization. Ms. Colbert uses these techniques to study how best to serve the faculty of Michigan Tech and how to improve institutional experience for all. Working for the ADVANCE team is really important to Karen as she feels her input can highlight not only the voice of intersectionalities for Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC), but all underserved communities on campus. Michigan Tech, as an institution, has the drive to be better and Ms. Colbert wants to be part of the solution.

Betsy Lehman

Betsy Lehman

Biography

Betsy has been working to increase awareness of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in higher education since starting college in 2012. As both an undergraduate and graduate student at Northern Michigan University, she was a leader in LGBTQ student organizing and advocacy, coordinated campus programming both for and about the LGBTQ community, and served on committees to enhance the Gender & Sexuality Studies minor program. She is excited to now work with the ADVANCE Initiative at Michigan Tech and have the opportunity to use her background in psychological science and research skills to continue uplifting underrepresented individuals in higher education.
