Student Scholarships

The School of Business and Economics celebrates student success to recognize leaders and high-achievers. The list below defines each scholarship available to students within the School as well as the criteria to qualify. Each year faculty members on the Scholarship Committee vote on who receives scholarships out of a pool of applicants. Scholarship opportunities are announced in business and economics classes each academic year and are open to students from the School based on their eligibility and award criteria. Andrew Marshall and Janis R. Forsberg Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Business and Economics. First preference will be given to students majoring in Business with a concentration in Industrial Marketing and Management and a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Bernard Family Memorial Annual Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in or planning to major in accounting in the School of Business and Economics.  Preference will be given to students who desire to become a CPA and are of good character.  Student must possess a GPA of at least 3.0; be a resident of Michigan and a citizen of the US.

Beta Gamma Sigma National Scholarship

The criteria are GPA, Honors and Activities, Work Experience, and Community Service Activities. The selection process also includes a recommendation from a faculty member, outlining the applicant's specific strengths, academic performance, and potential leadership skills. These elements are used to rank order the applicants, and the highest ranking student is awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship.

This award is given to a senior who best represents student scholarship at Michigan Tech. This scholarship is awarded to a student in the School of Business and Economics that shows above average capabilities and leadership. This student must be from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Business and Economics with a minimum GPA of 2.5, focusing in Accounting. Preference is given in the following order: 1) Resident of Ironwood, MI; 2) Resident of Hancock, MI; 3) Resident from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Elliot Family Annual Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to students who are undergraduate or graduate pursuing a degree in the School of Business and Economics.  First preference should be given to students who are the first in their immediate family to go to college.

Karen S. Richardson Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student in the School of Business and Economics from Michigan, preferably Upper Michigan and in their freshman year.  This student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have a financial need.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students majoring in Economics. The scholarship may be awarded on a renewable basis for up to four academic years, provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Michigan Accountancy Foundation Scholarship

Each year, the Michigan Accountancy Foundation (MAF) awards scholarships to deserving accounting students attending Michigan’s colleges and universities. The MAF provides this scholarship program to assist current college accounting majors in funding their fifth/graduate year; accounting majors in their senior year are encouraged to apply.

Through the generous support of MACPA members, professional firms and other CPA leaders, the Foundation strives to increase the number of students graduating from accounting programs who will make a positive impact on the accounting profession. Investing in young people guarantees that the best and the brightest stars of today become the leaders of the CPA profession tomorrow.

MIS Alumni Scholarship

This endowed scholarship was created and funded by Alumni of the MIS program within the School of Business and Economics.  The criteria for selection is the following: an MIS major (or dual major)  with a strong academic standing, demonstrated commitment to the MIS degree program, and professional communication skills.  Two scholarships will be awarded annually; one to a sophomore ($1,000) and one to a junior ($2,000).

This award is given to students who bring honor and pride to the School of Business and Economics through high scholastic achievement and involvement. Students eligible for this honor went through an intense interview process that included an essay and interview with faculty.

The School of Business and Economics Impact Scholarship recognizes Michigan high school seniors who have demonstrated leadership experience and academic success both in and outside the classroom, and are planning to major in accounting, economics, engineering management, finance, management, management information systems, or marketing.
