Student Scholarships

The School of Business and Economics celebrates student sucess to recognize leaders and high-achievers. The list below defines each scholarship available to students within the School as well as the criteria to qualify. Each year faculty members on the Scholarship Committee vote on who receives scholarships out of a pool of applicants. Scholarship opportunities are announced in business and economics classes each academic year and are open to students from the School based on their eligibility and award criteria. Beta Gamma Sigma National Scholarship


The criteria are GPA, Honors and Activities, Work Experience, and Community Service Activities. The selection process also includes a recommendation from a faculty member, outlining the applicant's specific strengths, academic performance, and potential leadership skills. These elements are used to rank order the applicants, and the highest ranking student is awarded the Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship.

Richard C. Chandler Memorial Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded based on outstanding academic achievement for an Economics student who pays out of state tuition.

This scholarship is awarded to a junior majoring in Business/Management with a minimum GPA of at least 2.5.

This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate with senior status majoring in Accounting.

Eino Reini Memorial Endowed Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Business and Economics with a minimum GPA of 2.5, focusing in Accounting. Preference is given in the following order: 1) Resident of Ironwood, MI; 2) Resident of Hancock, MI; 3) Resident from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Ross Roeder Endowed Scholarship


This scholarship is awarded to students in the School of Business and Economics with demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skills. The scholarship may be awarded on a renewable basis, provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 2.5 for each academic year at Michigan Tech.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Business and Economics. First preference will be given to students majoring in Business with a concentration in Industrial Marketing and Management and a minimum GPA of 2.5.

This scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in the School of Business and Economics earning a grade point average of 2.5 or greater, who attended Luther L. Wright High School or Gogebic Community College.

This scholarship is awarded to a resident of Houghton, Keweenaw, or Baraga Counties who is enrolled in the School of Business and Economics, has attained sophomore or higher class standing earning a GPA of at least 2.5.

This scholarship is awarded to freshmen students who have demonstrated high academic achievement in high school and major in the School of Business and Economics. The scholarship may be awarded on a renewable basis, provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0 for each academic year at Michigan Tech.

This scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Business and Economics, with a preference being given to residents of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The scholarship may be awarded on a renewable basis provided the recipient maintains a GPA of at least 2.5 for each academic year at Michigan Tech.

Established by alumni and friends of the Alpha Chapter of the Sigma Rho Fraternity, the School of Business and Economics Leadership Endowed Scholarship was created to support students who have demonstrated leadership capabilities while serving their communities, state, nation, high school, Michigan Technological University, the School of Business and Economics, or student organizations within the University.
