Portage Lake Lift Bridge Construction
The Portage Lake Lift Bridge, which connects the cities of Houghton and Hancock, is being upgraded starting in December 2014 with work expected to finish in spring 2016.

During construction, there will be:

  • Lane closures
  • Short and extended closures to pedestrian and vehicle traffic
  • Two overnight closures to pedestrian and vehicle traffic

 Be mindful of hotel and flight reservations, as well as any travel plans north of the bridge on highways M-26, US-41, and M-203.

Weekday Tours

Weekday tours are offered twice daily, Monday through Friday, whenever school is in session, including during the summer months.

The morning tour begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes:

  • a group presentation highlighting Michigan Tech’s academics, student organizations, and admissions process
  • tours of the Student Development Complex (our athletic facility) and the U.J. Noblet Forestry Building
  • a walking tour of campus with a current student as your guide
  • lunch in one of our residence halls with your student guide
  • an informational meeting with the academic department of your choice
  • a VIP pass to experience Tech's ski hill, golf course, Student Development Complex (with workout facility, pool, basketball courts, and more), trails, athletic and arts events, mineral museum, and more.

The afternoon tour begins at 1:00 p.m. and includes:

  • an informational meeting with the academic department of your choice
  • a group presentation highlighting Michigan Tech’s admissions process and scholarship programs
  • walking tour of campus with a current student as your guide
  • a VIP pass to experience Tech's ski hill, golf course, Student Development Complex (with workout facility, pool, basketball courts, and more), trails, athletic and arts events, mineral museum, and more.

Saturday Tours

Saturday tours are offered once a month during the academic year and include a group presentation with admissions and financial aid, walking tour of campus, VIP passes, and lunch in one of our residence halls. Saturday visits don’t include meetings with academic departments, except during Open House and Preview Day.
