Benefits Advisory Committee

The Purpose

The Benefits Advisory Committee (BAC) contributes to shared governance by providing a working committee that is representative of our employee composition, has a strong working knowledge of industry benefit offerings and is able to provide benchmarking against our peer institutions. This committee will provide comprehensive recommendations to the University’s Administration for employee benefits that should include short and long-term plans for benefits. It is an avenue to ensure the University is up-to-date on the challenges higher education and healthcare are facing and evaluate possible solutions.

The Charge

To review, benchmark, and evaluate the University’s current fringe benefit package from a long-term perspective. Recommendations may include, but are not be limited to, the following:

  • retirement benefit structures;
  • healthcare, dental and vision plans;
  • employee wellness plans;
  • childcare availability and offerings in the area; and
  • tuition benefits.

The objective of the advisory committee is to understand the University plans, conduct research, including industry benchmarks, and present related constituent views through open conversations with Administration and an awareness of the University’s financial constraints. The BAC may consider developing surveys and creating focus groups, when appropriate.

The advisory committee will present its recommendations, including supporting information, annually to the CFO and Senior Vice President for Administration and will update the CFO and key constituents quarterly. The BAC should offer several options with cost considerations for the employee/retiree/University.
