My experience at Michigan Tech thus far has been a rollercoaster ride, but I would not want to do it anywhere else.  Tech offers the best adventures and a fun and diverse learning environment.  My first year was growth, from switching majors before stepping onto campus, to being thrown into a new environment, and being 9 hours away from home.  It is the best crazy smart life!  Joining clubs like ACS has made an amazing community of friends and colleagues.  The Waino Wahtera Center has helped me grow into a successful student my first year and my love for helping people has brought me here to the Success Center to help all the Huskies I can!

Mechanical Engineering Technology
Interests: Baking, knitting, hiking, and general exploring with friends.

So far at Tech I have had the awesome opportunity to sing in the conScience chamber choir, participate in the 2017 orientation program as an OTL, work with several international students in my position as an English coach in the IGSC3, and help undergraduate students learn and grow academically as a Student Success coach in the Waino Wahtera Center.  I've also traveled to the UK on study abroad, spent 8 months on a co-op with Boss Snowplow, and got to help my brother move home for the summer after his first year at college!  It's been a wild ride so far and I'm excited for the future.

Major: Computer Networks and System Administration
Interests:  I am very active in St. Al's and I enjoy shooting sports and new technology.

Growing up in the U.P. I heard a lot about Michigan Tech.  I've wanted to go here since I was 13.  My first few semesters were rough, academically speaking.  I wasn't in the right major, and didn't have the study habits and time management skills.  After exploring my options and switching majors, I turned my grades around.  I've made the Dean's list the last couple semesters and just finished my first internship.  Overall, I've been very successful here at Tech and I am glad I get to help others be successful too.

Year: Fifth
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Interests: Alpine Ski Team, Mont Ripley Ski Patrol, Boardsports Enterprise, Peer Assistant for Success Courses and ExSEL Mentor.

I entered college without any formal understanding of time management or proper study habits.  During my first semester in the Wahtera Center's Frameworks for Success course, I learned so much about myself and what I was going to need to change in myself to succeed on this campus.  Four years later and after holding my different positions within the Wahtera Center, I continue to learn and adapt from the amazing people I meet and interact with.  I hope I can share my own experiences and continue to grow myself within these roles.

Michigan Tech has truly become a home for me. I find myself learning and experiencing more each day. The students, faculty, and staff provide countless opportunities for fun, learning, and achieving your dreams. I enjoy Michigan Tech and know I am in the right place because it feels like home, the classes are interesting and provide a challenge, and the rewards for hard work are endless. I truly enjoy talking to, helping, and working with other Tech students. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and its endless beauty has always held a special place in my heart. The area is absolutely beautiful and filled with adventure. I look forward to the many fun times and experiences the UP and Michigan Tech has yet to offer!

The first time I visited Tech, I was worried about it being far away from family. A trip through the Keweenaw and three years later, I'm so happy that I made this place my home. Michigan Tech keeps you on your toes; my time here has been filled with challenge, though those challenges have been balanced with amazing experiences and opportunities I know I wouldn't have had anywhere else. I'm so excited to be an Academic Success Coach and hope that my time in the office will lead to success and opportunities for those that I interact with.

Michigan Tech has been one heck of a ride and still continuing!!  I've definitely been challenged and have grown a lot compared to when I first stepped foot on this campus.  The most important piece of advise I was given during my freshman year from a senior at that time was:
" There are two steps to succeed as a student at Michigan Tech:
1.  Know all the resources that you would need
2. USE THEM!!"
Ever since then I have adhered to this advise. I have also learned from my fair share of mistakes. I joined the Waino Wahtera Student Success Center because I want to do my part in helping prevent other students from making the same mistakes I made.
