Ways to Give
Physics Alumni and Friends
This fund was established in 1967, and supports a variety of extracurricular activities in the physics department, including our weekly colloquium series, and faculty and student activities that help to create the positive, creative community environment the department enjoys.
Physics Undergraduate Research
Undergraduate research is a pillar of our undergraduate physics programs. It provides our students unique opportunities to gain valuable experience, often before their senior year. Gifts to this fund help to support summer research fellowships, equipment costs, and conference travel for our undergraduate students.
Physics Graduate Research
Graduate degrees in physics are all about research. Generous gifts to this fund have helped the department maintain a high level of excellence and productivity in graduate research by supporting continuous summer support, equipment costs, and conference travel for our graduate students.
John Miles Physics End Fellowship
This fellowship, established through a charitable remainder trust from the estate of John A. Miles (BS 1935), who passed away in 1986, helps the department to recruit exceptional new graduate students to our program by providing an enhanced stipend to successful applicants.
Ian Shepherd Endowed Award
Established in 1978 in memory of Dr. Ian W. Shepherd, former Michigan Tech physics department chair, this award is presented to a physics senior or graduate student judged to be the most promising by a three-person committee appointed by the head of the physics department.
