Student Achievements

The quality of a Michigan Tech education is best illustrated by the accomplishments of our students.

  • Groups of students work together on real-world industry projects as part of the Enterprise Program—from video games to wireless, homeland security to hybrid SUVs. Our Aerospace Enterprise team took first place in the 2011 University Nanosat Program; the Department of Defense will launch their winning satellite into orbit in 2013.
  • Business students in the Applied Portfolio Management Program have won the RISE national stock investment competition twice in the value category. The program—which allows students to manage $1 million of real money—has been featured twice in Business Week and four times on CNBC.
  • Chemical engineering major Samantha Neirby was selected by the US Navy to serve on a nuclear submarine; she is just the third female Naval officer ever to be recruited from a college or university to serve on a sub.
  • Michigan Tech’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students received the 2011 Blake Lilly Prize for their work in positively influencing the attitudes of school children and the general public about physics; only four chapters in the nation received the award.
