Outdoor Adventure

Our university is located on the Keweenaw Waterway—minutes from Lake Superior. The natural splendor of the area is perfect for adventure in any season. Hike, bike, and ski our trails; paddle on lakes and rivers; take in majestic waterfalls; and explore the shores of the greatest of the Great Lakes. At Michigan Tech, outdoor adventure comes with the territory.

  • Michigan Tech boasts the oldest ski hill in Michigan—Mont Ripley. With 440' of vertical drop over 112 acres, students ski for free through the Experience Tech initiative.
  • Acquired in 1945, Michigan Tech's Portage Lake Golf Course is one of the oldest courses in the area and features a beautifully irrigated, 18-hole green.
  • The Tech Trails (500 acres) are an expansive paradise for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and Nordic skiing. Half of the trail system is lighted during the winter, allowing for evening adventures.

Living on Campus

As you consider your best university fit, let's be honest: Where you crash at the end of a long day matters. A lot. Whether you prefer a bustling environment or a more cozy vibe, you'll find a residence hall that fits your unique personality.

Amenities and Dining

Each residence hall offers a dining hall, study lounges, game room, sauna (pronounced sow-na, thanks to the Finnish heritage in our region), fitness room, and laundry facilities—and both student and professional residence staff are available any time you have questions or need help. Meals are prepared fresh daily and you'll have unlimited access to all three dining halls. We're happy to work with you individually if you have dietary concerns.
