Outreach in Water Systems
Michigan Tech is committed to outreach to communities, K-12 students, and other groups. Outreach related to water issues at Michigan Tech primarily occurs through the following centers and programs:
The Western UP Center for Science, Mathematics, and Environmental Education
The Western UP Center offers a wide variety of programs focused on enhancing the teaching and learning of science and mathematics in the nineteen school districts of Baraga, Houghton, Keweenaw, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The Western UP Center is a member of Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network whose primary goal is to build an educated workforce by providing quality student, teacher, and community programming to improve K-12 science and mathematics education throughout the state.
Michigan Tech Youth Programs
Youth Programs is a division of the Center for Pre-College Outreach at Michigan Tech. For more than thirty-five years, they have offered students an opportunity to experience a mini-version of college life. Explorations engage participants in hands-on, discovery-based learning opportunities. They will work with other talented and diverse students in various group activities and laboratory exercises, and they will be guided through the research being conducted on campus in many programs as they investigate their talents and interests.
