Orientation Schedule for Fall Semester 2013
Graduate School New Student Orientation

Orientation will introduce students to expectations for graduate students and the basics of responsible conduct for research. Students will also learn about the services available on campus to support their success. Contact Debra Charlesworth or Kristi Isaacson for more information.
Pre-registration is required. Please register online so that we can plan for your attendance. This event will be full, so register early to reserve your seat. Students who are unable to attend this session may attend spring orientation to receive the required training.
Schedule and Description
- 11:30am - 1:00pm: Registration in the Memorial Union Ballroom (2nd floor)
We'll have lunch tickets available so you can grab lunch and socialize with other new students. - 11:30am - 1:00pm: Student Services Fair in the Memorial Union Commons (ground floor)
Use your lunch ticket to purchase food in the Commons, and learn about some of the great services available to you. You might even get to meet Blizzard T. Husky! - 1:00 - 4:30pm: Orientation program in the Memorial Union Ballroom (2nd floor)
Attend to learn about Michigan Tech policies, and obtain the required Responsible Conduct of Research training
Our orientation program will introduce students to:

- Advisor/Advisee Relationships
- Responsible Conduct for Research
- Setting Expectations for Graduate Education
Training Requirement
All graduate students are required to complete basic Responsible Conduct for Research (RCR) training. Students who are unable to attend orientation, or are completing degrees through distance programs, will be contacted early in their first semester with instructions on how to complete the training. Students who do not complete the training within their first two semesters will have a hold placed on their account and will not be eligible to enter research only mode or graduate.
Events
The Graduate Student Government organizes events during orientation to introduce students to the area and socialize with other graduate students. All incoming students will also receive an e-mail with a schedule of orientation week events prior to their arrival.
GTA Orientation
The GTA Orientation Schedule is available on the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) website. They offer orientation prior to the start of fall semester.
Program Orientation
Individual programs may also have orientation sessions. Please contact your graduate program director for more information.
International Student Information
The office of International Programs and Services will welcome international students to campus and provide additional information.
