Course Registration

All Michigan Tech students register for courses online through the Banweb system. During each semester, students register for the following semester’s courses. Students are assigned a registration priority window, which indicates when they may register for their courses, based on the number of credits they have earned. Courses may also be added and dropped online through Banweb; however, these changes must be completed before the deadlines set by the Registrar’s Office. Strongly encourage your student to discuss their degree plan with their advisor prior to registration.

For incoming first-year students, class registration for the first semester depends upon the student’s major. Students in the College of Engineering will be grouped into a “cohort” with students who have similar course placement. The students in a cohort are scheduled for the same math, physics, and engineering classes. Cohort scheduling occurs in July, and later that month students can access their course schedule on Banweb or the Husky Hub. Engineering students will finalize their course schedule in August at Orientation, where they will register for general education courses, such as Perspectives on Inquiry or PE classes.

Students in the College of Sciences and Arts, School of Business and Economics, School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science, and School of Technology have the opportunity to register for courses online in April, prior to Orientation. If a student does not register online during this time, the Registrar’s Office will prepare an initial schedule for them based on their major and placement scores. These students will also have the opportunity to finalize their course registration and adjust their class schedule (if needed) at Orientation in August.

Detailed information about course registration is available in the Tech Guide, which is mailed to incoming students in February, and in a letter from the University’s registrar.
