Schedule of Parent & Family Orientation Events

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM Parent & Family Orientation Welcome and Opening Session
Parents and family members will learn more about common first-year transitional issues, the many resources available on campus, how to help their student from a distance, and will get some insight about the changing relationship with their college student. You will also get a feel for some entertaining real life scenarios that might happen in your family, portrayed by our Orientation Team Leaders (OTLs).
10:00 AM – 1:00 PM Student Services Offices Open – Locations Vary
If you have any brief questions you need answered before business hours on Monday, many University offices will be open to assist you and your family.
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM Campus Tours – Walker (11), Front Lawn
The Orientation Team Leaders will guide you through Michigan Tech’s campus wonders and give you a taste of our friendly culture. Tours begin at 11:00 am and 11:30 am - rain or shine.
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM Parent & Family Orientation Information Sessions – Locations Vary
Curious about what living the residence halls is like these days? Worried about your student’s health or safety? Or, do you just want to learn more about how your student can get involved on campus and succeed academically? Don’t worry…you’re not alone! The Parent & Family Information Sessions will address several topics and answer your questions during these conference style sessions.
3:00 PM – 5:00 PM Campus Tours – Walker (11), Front Lawn
The Orientation Team Leaders will guide you through Michigan Tech’s campus and give you a taste of our friendly culture. Tours begin at 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM - rain or shine.
4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Family Picnic – Walker (11), Front Lawn
Take a break and enjoy this picnic for new students and their families! Tickets purchased in advance for family members can be picked up at the Rozsa Center Box Office. Extra tickets will also be available on a first come/first served basis at the Box Office. In the event of rain, please eat in your student’s residence hall dining hall. Families of commuter students may eat in the dining hall of their choice.
6:30 PM – 7:30 PM University Welcome – SDC (24), Wood Gym
Meet the people who will help your student discover their journey to success. We will kick off Orientation Week, introduce you to Michigan Tech, and hear a welcome from University President Dr. Glenn Mroz and Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Les Cook.
7:30 PM – 9:30 PM Parent Reception – Keweenaw Brewing Company, Houghton, MI
Join fellow Michigan Tech parents, local alumni, and University faculty and staff for an informal gathering and light refreshments at the Keweenaw Brewing Company (KBC) following the University Welcome.
