Book Information

This year all first-year students will be reading Full Body Burden: Growing Up in the Nuclear Shadow of Rocky Flats by Kristen Iversen. This award-winning book is a haunting work of narrative nonfiction about a young woman growing up in a small Colorado town close to Rocky Flats, a secret nuclear weapons plant once designated “the most contaminated site in America”. It’s the story of a childhood and adolescence in the shadow of the Cold War, in a landscape at once startlingly beautiful and –unknown to those who lived there- invisible yet deadly particles of plutonium.

Students are expected to read this book before arriving at Michigan Tech for Orientation. Information will be sent to you in July with all of the summer reading details. You may purchase this book online and have it mailed directly to you from the Michigan Tech Bookstore by visiting their website at www.bookstore.mtu.edu or from your favorite local or online book seller.
