Initial math course placement is made using the guidelines given in the Tech Guide booklet. If you wish to challenge your placement, you are encouraged to take the Math Diagnostic Test offered in the spring (information will be sent to you). Students who were accepted after May 1, 2009, or who do not have an ACT or SAT score are required to take this test, which covers algebra and trigonometry. Calculators are not permitted during the test.
A sample Math Diagnostic Test can be found on e-reserve at the library: from the library website, go to JRVP Library Catalog; Course Reserve; Instructor: MA Dept; Department: Math; Search. Look for "Basic Skills Test".
If you are a first-year student who would like more information on math placement or the math program, visit the Mathematical Sciences page.
