Reminder: Research Day Is Thursday

The Vice President for Research Office reminds the campus community that Research Day will be held Thursday (Jan. 5). A final agenda and additional information will be sent to all registered attendees early this week.

If your schedule does not allow you to attend the full day, please consider joining us for the networking reception at the end of the day. The networking reception will be held from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in MUB Ballroom B. No RSVP is required for the reception; please stop by and join us as we reflect on Research Day, network with colleagues and informally celebrate the research and scholarly accomplishments of colleagues from calendar year 2022.

Spring 2023 HuskiesFit Group Fitness Class Schedule

Start your New Year off right with the HuskiesFit Ultimate Punch Card! Commit to be HuskiesFit and gain a variety of group fitness classes to choose from. The spring semester class schedule begins next Monday (Jan. 9).

The HuskiesFit Ultimate Punch Card is good for one year from the date of purchase, comes in eight- or 16-punch options and allows you to attend a great selection of classes that are open to anyone 16 years of age or older. Class day passes are also available for $10.

And don't forget... SDC access holders (minimum one month) may attend HuskiesFit group fitness classes for free as a benefit of membership! Just present your access ID for entry to class.

HuskiesFit session classes begin next Monday as well. Session-based classes include: Aikido, Aqua-Fit, Erg/Rowing and Self Defense. These classes are not included in the HuskiesFit Ultimate Punch Card and are not free for SDC access holders, so sign up for them today!

Register Now for Adult Huskies Aquatics Programs

Registration is now open for spring 2023 Adult Huskies Aquatics. Two programs will be offered:

  • Adult Huskies Swim Training
    Provides additional attention and competitive guidance to swimmers ages 18 and older who are looking to improve their swimming skills and fitness levels in a group setting. Each session is programmed with a warm-up and variations of a workout for the beginner, intermediate and advanced swimmer. Participants will be provided coaching and guidance to meet their individual swimming goals!

  • Adult Huskies Swim Lessons
    Provides aquatic education for the beginner to intermediate swimmer who is looking to become more comfortable in the water and learn the fundamental four strokes.

Program Dates and Cost:

  • Session 1 — Jan. 10 to Feb. 2 (registration closes Friday (Jan. 6) at 11:59 p.m.)
  • Session 2 — Feb. 7 to March 2 (registration closes Feb. 3 at 11:59 p.m.)
  • Session 3 — March 7 to April 6 (registration closes March 3 at 11:59 p.m., no class March 14 and 16)

Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday from 5-5:50 p.m. at the SDC Pool. Cost is $100 per session. A discount is available for SDC members.

Reminders

Nominations Open for 2023 MAGS Excellence in Teaching Awards

Nominations are now open for the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) Excellence in Teaching Awards. Michigan Tech may nominate two students, one at the MS level and one at the PhD level.

Each graduate program may nominate one MS student and one PhD student. Nominations are due to the Graduate School no later than 4 p.m., Jan. 4, 2023.

Eligible students:

  • will have been enrolled at Michigan Tech during the 2022 calendar year and have a teaching appointment
  • will have earned the Michigan Tech Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award
  • will have an excellent teaching portfolio and student evaluations

Earn Up to $450 with Husky Health

All benefits eligible employees, don’t forget to complete your Husky Health Checklist with the activities you completed between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2022, to earn up to $450.

Next Monday (Jan. 9) is the last day to submit your Husky Health Checklist for the reporting period of Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2022, to receive your Husky Health payout incentive in early 2023.

MTU Archives Winter Break Hours and Closure Dates

Normal appointment hours for the Michigan Tech Archives’ reading room, which was closed to patrons until Jan. 1, will resume with limited availability today through Thursday (Jan. 2-5).

Normal appointment hours are Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Regular appointment hours will resume next Monday (Jan. 9).

Remote research requests may be submitted via copper@mtu.edu, but responses may be delayed during the closure.
