Department of Computer Science Undergraduate Research Scholarship

The Department of Computer Science Undergraduate Research Scholarship provides research opportunities to Computer Science undergraduates, motivating creative activities and preparing them for graduate school or work in industry.

Number of Awards per Year

Three to four scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded each semester.

Proposal Limit

A student may submit up to two proposals each year and receive at most one award per semester.

Usage of Scholarship

The scholarship may be used for stipend, tuition, and/or equipment across one or two semesters.

Application Deadlines

  • Summer semester awards: April 1
  • Spring semester awards: December 1
  • Fall semester awards: August 1

Proposal Requirements

  • The applicant must be an active Department of Computer Science undergraduate student.
  • The proposed work must be supervised by at least one Computer Science faculty member.
  • The proposal should include introduction, proposed work, and an evaluation plan. The student and the supervisor(s) may write the proposal together. The proposal should be no more than three pages in length.
  • The applicant should submit their resume and transcript with their proposal.
  • The supervisor(s) will provide a supporting letter and a budget.
  • Submit a student research scholarship application.
  • Submit a faculty recommendation.

Evaluation and Project Deliverables

  • The proposals will be evaluated by a committee consisting of four Department of Computer Science faculty members.
  • The committee will evaluate the proposal based on its intellectual merit and broad impact. The decision will be made and recipients will be notified within two weeks of the proposal deadline.
  • At the end of each semester, research scholarship awardees will to present a research poster at the biannual Department of Computer Science research workshop.
