Intellectual Property Policy Information

Michigan Tech policies on intellectual property are designed in recognition of a number of factors, including the investment of the State of Michigan and other public funds in the creation, maintenance, and operation of Michigan Tech's research facilities and the pay received by employees. The Office of Innovation and Commercialization abides by these rules and regulations as articulated in the Michigan Tech Board of Trustees Policy Manual.

In general, all employees are required to assign the rights of any technologies they create within the scope of their research or other duties at Michigan Tech or through the use of University facilities, equipment, or resources.  Scholarly, Academic, and Artistic works are exempt from the assignment requirement.

These sections of the Michigan Tech Board of Trustees Policy Manual are relevant to Intellectual Property issues.
