Daniell Heights Living Guide

Living In Your Apartment

Important Notices

Whenever the management has an important message for you, it may be printed and posted on the clip outside your door. You should read these messages as soon as possible. We may also email important notices. Notices may also be posted on the community board and on the Daniell Heights marquee message board.

Children

For their own safety, your children should play in your apartment or in Daniell Heights playgrounds and yards. Laundry rooms, mechanical rooms, and enclosed halls may be hazardous, and children playing in them may disturb others. Children should be supervised at all times to avoid injury to themselves and others, or damaging property.

Cleaning Common Areas

We allow residents to keep their detergents in the laundry room at your own risk. Shoes should be kept inside your apartment at all times to insure safety in case of an emergency and to facilitate cleaning by our facilities staff. It is the residents’ responsibility to help keep the laundry area and hallways clean, along with our facilities staff.

Walks, Breezeways, Halls, Stairways

Cleaning halls, stairways, walks, and breezeways is your responsibility. That includes removing snow in the winter. You and your neighbors may establish a schedule and take turns doing these chores.

For the safety of everyone, do not keep bicycles, toys, carriages, bottles, garbage, etc., in these areas. Never keep lighter fluid, gasoline, bleach, sharp or unstable objects, or any other poisonous, flammable, or hazardous item in a public area. Items in these areas that appear abandoned or unsafe will be removed at the owner’s expense. Furniture removed from apartments and left in public areas may also be removed and stored at the resident’s expense.

Wall Decorations

You may decorate your apartment as you like, but remember the apartment must be returned to its original condition before you leave. We recommend you use the picture hanging hooks available at the Wadsworth Hall reception desk. Using these hooks in small quantities and removing them properly leaves small holes that do not need to be repaired or painted.

Smoke Free Living

Daniell Heights Apartments are smoke free. Smoking is not permitted inside of any apartment or building. For you convenience, smoking receptacles are located at the entrance of each building.

Paying Your Rent

Pay your rent each month at the Cashier’s Office, located in the Administration Building. You may also pay online on your student account at www.banweb.mtu.edu. Housing and Residential Life cannot accept resident payments. Rent is due on the first day of each month, and late fees accrue on the sixth and sixteenth day of each month. All miscellaneous apartment charges are also put on your student account.

If you normally receive a refund check from a loan, scholarship, or grant, please note the following:

Due to your rental agreement, future rent will be paid by your current aid. Depending upon the size of your financial aid package, you may still need to check your account if the credit does not cover the full amount of the charges. If this creates undue hardship, please contact Housing and Residential Life, 153 Wadsworth Hall for assistance.
