Member Privileges

Being a member of the Honors Institute provides you with many ways to enhance your learning at Michigan Tech, as well as meet other students who are as committed to their studies as you are. The benefits of being a member include:

Expanded library privileges. You can use the graduate student area of the library, have an extended checkout time for books, and use the reserved study room for Honors Institute members on the third floor.

Research  tailored to your own interests.  The titles of your research contracts will appear on your transcript at graduation to showcase your research interests and accomplishments.

Opportunities to select  guest speakers. The Honors Institute has many special guests come to speak to us during the year.  As a member, you can voice your interest in whom you’d like to hear from.

Regular interaction with other Institute members and the entire Michigan Tech community. By attending the Honors meetings and events, or joining a committee within the Institute, you will meet many other driven students who can help you gain valuable skills and networking during your time at Michigan Tech. This may also give you more opportunities to meet other Michigan Tech students and faculty.

Funds for travel to conferences (on a competitive basis).  If your contract or research requires you to travel to a conference, after it is approved you may be able to access Honors Institute funds to help with your travel or registration fees.

Opportunity to live on a dorm floor with other Honors members. Honors Institute students are given a chance to opt into living in the same area as other members, so they can learn and grow together.

Honors Institute summer research fellowships (on a competitive basis). Honors Institute members may have access to funding for undergraduate research through summer fellowships ( SURF).
