Peter began his career at E.J. Longyear in Minneapolis working mainly on projects in the Western United States. He then served as a mine geologist for two mining companies in Canada until 1971 when he opened his own contracting business in the Red Lake Mining District. He closed his contracting business in 1992 and is now a consulting engineer.

Peter served as Reeve (Mayor) of Cochenour Township for several years. He is an avid traveler and fisherman. He has been a private pilot since 1955 and has served as a commercial pilot flying twin engine aircrafts from Hudson Bay to Northern Manitoba. Peter graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1961 with a BS in Geological Engineering.
