Philco-Ford Corp., San Francisco, CA.; General Manager, Sar Chesmeh Mining Co., Iran; Served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the U.S., Korea, Turkey, Germany, and Vietnam, attaining the rank of Colonel; Military honors: Silver Star for gallantry against an armed enemy in Korea, the Legion of Merit for service as Battalion Commander, the Bronze Star, the Commendation Ribbon and the Korean Service Ribbon; Member, Alumni Association Golden M Club; Active in AIME, Society of Sigma Xi, Society of American Military Engineers; Awarded first place as outstanding ARCO retiree volunteer; Honored as Summit County Senior Volunteer of the Year for work on several community service boards.

Lawrence B. Farnum graduated with a BS degree in Mining Engineering from the Michigan College of Mining and Technology in 1941. He was a member of Army ROTC, AIME, Theta Tau Fraternity, Camera Club, Ski Club, and participated in intramural sports while in college.

After graduation, Larry worked for Timken Roller Bearing Co. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, and from 1949-68 served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the U.S., Korea, Turkey, and Germany, attaining the rank of Colonel.

In 1971 Larry was Facilities Engineer Manager for the Ford Motor Co. Philco-Ford Corp. in San Francisco, CA. In 1973 he became Project Coordinator for the Primary Metals Div., Anaconda Co., Tucson, AZ, and was promoted to Project Engineer in 1975. From 1976-77 Larry was General Manager, Sar Chesmeh Mining Co., Iran, and in 1977 he became Projects Manager for the Anaconda Company in Denver, CO. He retired from Atlantic-Richfield Co. (ARCO), Anaconda Minerals Co., as Manager of Engineering Services in 1982.

ARCO awarded Larry with first place as outstanding retiree volunteer, based on a world-wide selection. He was also honored as Summit County Senior Volunteer of the Year for his work on several community service boards. Larry has been active in the AIME, Society of Sigma Xi, Society of American Military Engineers, Boy Scout Council, and the Masonic Order. He received several military honors including the Silver Star for his gallantry against an armed enemy in Korea, the Legion of Merit for his service as Battalion Commander, the Bronze Star, the Commendation Ribbon and the Korean Service Ribbon. Larry is a member of the Alumni Association Golden M Club.
