Jazz Club Cabaret

Warm your winter bones and nourish your soul with some hot jazz, funk and blues at the Jazz Club Cabaret.

Mike Irish, director of jazz studies, says three groups will perform each night. On Friday, Michigan Tech's finest combos, JazTec and Momentum, will perform along with the Calumet High School Jazz Experience directed by Scott Veenstra. On Saturday night, Jaztec opens the show, followed by Momentum, then the return of a local favorite, the RealTime Jazz Band.

Saturday marks RealTime's return to the jazz scene after an 18-month hiatus. Leader Charles White (keyboards) has programmed a set of contemporary tunes featuring Kirsten White on vocals and flugelhorn, Dan Komarzec on six-string bass, Adam Johnson on drums, and Mike Irish on guitars. Jaztec continues in its great tradition of jazz standards and contemporary jazz with its own creative twist, while Momentum performs, in Irish's words, "some of the deepest grooves and funkiest tunes in the area."

The shows are different each night, so they're "fresh and hot, a menu made to order," Irish says. McArdle Theatre will feature cabaret seating at tables, excellent sound, lots of club atmosphere, and concessions served by Mu Beta Psi
