1. Call to order and roll call. [00:00 – 05:50]

President Brian Barkdoll called the University Senate Meeting 578 to order at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. The Senate Secretary Marty Thompson called roll. Absent were senators Beffel and Xia and representatives of Army/Air Force ROTC, Geological and Mining Engineering and Sciences, Humanities, Materials Science and Engineering, Visual and Performing Arts, Graduate Faculty Council, Staff Council and Undergraduate Student Government. 

2. Recognition of visitors. Guests included Theresa Coleman-Kaiser (Administration), Ginger Sleeman (Human Resources), Bonnie Gorman (Dean of Students Office), Ralph Hodek (Sabbatical Leave Committee) and Jackie Huntoon (Provosts Office).

3. Approval of agenda. [05:51 – 06:15]

Guter moved to approve the agenda. Brown seconded. No discussion. The agenda passed unanimously on a voice vote.                                                                                                                                          

4. Approval of Senate meeting dates [06:16 – 06:44]

Proposed dates:     Wednesday, September 7, 2016

                                  Wednesday, January 18, 2017

Guter moved to approve. Schmierer seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote. 

5. Approval of Senate standing committees [06:45 – 07:37]

Hamlin moved to approve. Guter seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote. 

6. Election of Senate officers for 2016-2017 [07:38 – 34:37]

a. For the office of Senate President:

Candidates for President: Brian Barkdoll and Marty Thompson.

Clancey called for additional nominations. None. Hamlin moved to close nominations. Wanless seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote.

Candidates presented their arguments for the office of president.

Thompson was elected to the position of Senate President by majority vote. 

b. For the office of Senate Vice-President:

Candidates for Vice President: Katie Cooper.

Clancey called for additional nominations. None.

Hamlin moved to close nominations. Wanless seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote.

Candidates presented their arguments for the office of vice-president.

Cooper was elected to the position of Senate Vice-President by majority vote. 

c. For the office of Senate Secretary:

Candidates for Secretary: None.

Clancey called for additional nominations. Barkdoll nominated Brian Barkdoll.

Guter moved to close nominations. Hamlin seconded. The motion passed unanimously on a voice vote.

Candidates presented their arguments for the office of secretary.

Barkdoll was elected to the position of Senate Secretary by majority vote.

11. Adjournment

President Barkdoll adjourned the meeting at 6:04 p.m.
