Terry Woychowski has done so much for so many and is clearly worthy of being the first recipient of the newly established Humanitarian Award. With his immediate family, Terry founded the Woychowski Charitable Foundation, sponsoring a Michigan Tech Senior Design Team to build a "Human-Powered Hammer Mill." Chuck Laurila earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1959 and began his career as a field engineer with Boeing Company's Aerospace Division. He spent seven years with Boeing, becoming a senior engineer working on the Minuteman missiles at Air Force bases in the Western states. Chuck then worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company and was responsible for the maintenance program in the crushing . . .

Bob Monica attended Michigan Tech after serving in the United States Army during World War II, and in 1950 he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He continued his education at Princeton University, earning a Master of Science degree in Plastics Engineering in 1952. Judy Swann earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Tech in 1983. Following graduation, she accepted a position as a Patent Examiner with the Patent and Trademark Office of the United States Department of Commerce in Alexandria, Virginia.
