The Writing Center

Michigan Tech Writing Center

Founded in 1975 as the Language Skills Lab, the Michigan Tech Writing Center has operated in a variety of guises over the years. One thing has never changed, our commitment to providing all Huskies with collaborative writing support in a welcoming, responsive, and judgment free setting. We offer both undergraduate and graduate learning center support, as well as writing across the curriculum support for faculty and staff. We also host both the Lode and the Creative Writing Club. All disciplines at Michigan Tech are writing intensive, and whether you need writing assistance in the arts, humanities, social sciences, business, economics, computing, engineering, forestry, environmental sciences, health professions, mathematics, natural and physical sciences, or technology, we’re here to help.

The Michigan Tech Writing Center is supported by the Office of the Provost, the College of Sciences and Arts, and the Department of Humanities.

Here To Help You Write

The Writing Center is staffed by peer coaches trained to give supportive, warm, welcoming, inclusive, and judgment-free support to both graduate and undergraduate students in their writing projects. Our process is collaborative in nature and encourages skill-building and writing as an iterative process.

The writing center visit opened my eyes to a new world of writing and gave me hope that just because I'm not good at writing it doesn't mean that I am not capable. I just need to find a way that suits me. -N.G., Chemistry, 1st Year
Going to the Writing Center to gather opinions and learning new formats and styles for writing projects proved to be invaluable -V.W., Civil Engineering, 1st year
The writing center has this relaxing atmosphere where I feel more productive when working on my assignments. There is always someone there if I have any questions and the background music is an added bonus! -M.N., STC Major, Senior
