Congratulations on your upcoming graduation! Commencement is rapidly approaching and you qualify for participation in the spring ceremony and will be listed in the program provided:
- Submit a Commencement Application (Walk) Form requesting to participate in commencement. This form is due in the Graduate School by 4 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2012.
- Contact Nancy Byers Sprague (nspr@mtu.edu, 487-2755) in the Graduate School if your plans have changed and you are not completing your degree this or next semester.
Please contact Nancy Byers Sprague (nspr@mtu.edu, 487-2755) in the Graduate School by Friday, February 17, 2012, if:
- You have not yet confirmed your attendance (even if you have indicated planned attendance on your "Life after MTU" form.
- Would like to defer attendance to a future commencement ceremony.
- Are a PhD candidate, please contact your advisor and have them confirm their attendance with Nancy Byers Sprague (nspr@mtu.edu, 487-2755).
Information for All Students:
Academic Garb, Caps, Gowns, Tassels and Hoods are required to participate in commencement and must be ordered through the Campus Bookstore by March 2, 2012. Orders placed after this date will incur additional shipping fees and cannot be guaranteed.
Attend Gradfest at the Campus Store on February 15, 2012 to place your order.
Academic garb, caps and gowns are available for pick-up at the Campus Store between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday, April 23 through Friday, April 27. They may also be picked up at University Images at the SDC on Saturday, April 28 after 9 a.m. Contact the Campus Store with questions, 487-2410 or bmbelang@mtu.edu.
Commencement Tickets may be obtained by presenting photo ID at the Customer Service Center in the Campus Bookstore between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday, April 16 through Thursday, April 26. You may receive up to four (4) tickets at that time. Students who are not participating in the commencement ceremony may pick up their tickets and distribute them as they please. There is open seating for the audience.
Out-of-Town Degree Candidates arriving in Houghton on Friday, April 27, or Saturday, April 28, should contact the Central Ticket Office at 906-487-2073 and advise of their late arrival and make special arrangements to claim their tickets.
On Friday, April 27, all unclaimed tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, for those who need additional tickets.
Commencement Rehearsal will be held on Friday, April 27, at 1:30 p.m. in the SDC Ice Arena. Rehearsal lasts approximately one hour. You do not need to wear your cap and gown.
Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 28, at 10:30 a.m. in the SDC Ice Arena. Graduates should arrive no later than 9:45 a.m. Family members should be seated in the audience and not with the graduates. The ceremony lasts approximately two hours. The SDC Ice Arena is an alcohol-free facility.
Special Needs seating is available for guests. Should special seating accommodations be required, please contact Vicky Roy in the Registrar's Office 906-487-2319 or vlroy@mtu.edu by Friday, April 27, 2011. Space for wheelchairs will be provided; however, Michigan Tech is unable to provide wheelchairs.
A Signer will be present throughout the ceremony to assist the hearing impaired.
Commencement Photo arrangements have been made with a professional photographer to take a photo of each degree candidate as he/she is congratulated on stage. Proofs and ordering information will be emailed or mailed to your home address within 4-6 weeks. Please make certain that your current home address is on file with the Graduate School.
