Student organizations are an excellent way to establish leadership skills, learn about or serve your profession and make new friends. Membership and accomplishments in extracurricular activities are also a positive addition to anyone's resume. Students in the Biological Sciences programs have the opportunity to join the following student organizations.
The following clubs, societies, and groups may be of interest to students studying in the department of Biological Sciences. Not all of them are directly affiliated with our department, however.
Established to inform students, staff, and faculty of Michigan Technological University and the surrounding community of topics and issues involving fish and freshwater ecosystems; to be open to all students, staff and faculty regardless of major and to help members obtain their academic goals; to organize volunteer events that will not conflict with academic priorities.
The Microbiology Club of Michigan Tech’s mission is to: Promote student interest and further improve the quality of the Microbiology program at Michigan Tech; to promote and advance public interest in the field of Microbiology; to provide academic aid to Michigan Tech students in Microbiology courses; and to promote student participation in local, state and national meetings of the American Society of Microbiology (ASM).
Phi Sigma is dedicated to the promotion of research and to fostering academic excellence in the biological sciences.
"Exploring Health Careers and Serving the Community." This is a service organization open to all majors but primarily focuses on those interested in the pre-health professions. Meetings are held biweekly and one service project and/or professional speaker is held each month. In addition we host speakers, MCAT reviews, and social events.
Established to encourage professionalism, high standards of scholarship, and understanding of the responsibilities and demands of the medical technology profession; act as a service organization to the community and campus; and to acquaint the general public with the profession.
