Biology Learning Center

The Biological Sciences Learning Center has resources to help you with your studies. If you are struggling with a biology concept—or just have a question—this is the place to go. You may make an individual appointment for help, or walk in with a specific problem. Our learning center coaches are top students in the biological sciences, and they know first hand about the courses you are taking. Coaches also hold weekly group study sessions to help you with your specific course needs.

Meet the Learning Center Coaches

Ashley

Major: Biological Sciences
Year: Junior (3rd year)
Years in BLC: One
Future: Go to PA school and get my degree and work in a large hospital.
Favorite thing about Biology: Being able to connect symptoms to a disease and learning how my body fights off viruses/infections/diseases.

Maddi

Major: Biological Sciences, Spanish International Minor
Year: Senior (4th year)
Years in BLC: Three
Future: Go to med school, eventually work for an NGO such as “Medicos del Mundo”.
Favorite thing about Biology: Probably whales. Really all sea mammals, actually.

Amber

Major: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Year: Senior (4th year)

Future: Work at a biotechnology company improving agriculture.
Favorite thing about Biology: Plants!

Favorite thing about Biology: How life is organized from the molecular to ecosystem level.

Favorite thing about Biology: It’s the only science where multiplication and division mean the same thing.

Major: B.S. in Exercise Science, Minor in Biology, current Kinesiology Grad student

Future: Earn a doctorate of physical therapy and work as a PT at a private practice.
Favorite thing about Biology: The human body, in general. The specificity and function for different body cells is pretty cool. We have like millions of little “brains” inside of us working to keep us healthy!

Future: Graduate from Tech and then enter the Veterinary Technician program at MSU.
Favorite thing about Biology: Looking at things under the microscope!

Future: Med school at Wayne state, hopefully to become an endocrinologist.
Favorite thing about Biology: I love how biology explains so many of the everyday things we see, it's cool to be able to have a deeper appreciation for nature, the human body, and biology in general!

Future: After graduating from Tech, attend medical school (somewhere) and work as an Oncologist in northern Wisconsin because that is easily the best part on the country!
Favorite thing about Biology: I've always loved sitting in Anatomy classes and finally connect the dots as to why health problems are occurring within your body or other relatives. Call it the medical Ah Ha moment I guess!

Favorite thing about Biology: I love that studying biology can mean so many different things- from animals, to microorganisms, to ecosystems, to chemical processes and many more!

The Learning Center is also a place to get together with your fellow classmates to study as a group, to use computer images to study for a practical exam, to complete specific assignments that require computers, or to take advantage of references and other resources available in the Learning Center while working on a project.

Available Resources

In addition to Learning Center coaches, we have an assortment of resources and reference materials to assist you as you study, work on projects, or practice a presentation. Available resources include:

  • sample exams;
  • notes from previous classes;
  • textbooks;
  • models;
  • microscopes and slides;
  • a data projector;
  • a document camera; and
  • computers and digital study materials.
