Tim Hartwig
  • BS Environmental Engineering 1997

Tim Hartwig '97 chose Michigan Tech because of its excellent academic reputation and its location in the UP, close to his hometown of Marquette.

After graduating, Tim got into commercial real estate—specifically multifamily apartments— and has been involved in the ownership, development, and operations of buildings across the country ever since. Tim also likes to stay involved with non-profit activities including being a board member at his two alma maters Michigan Tech and The University of Denver, and a member of Rotary International, FEMA, Metro Volunteers, and Local Government.

“Getting through Michigan Tech was one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life- and it prepared me by teaching me many important life lessons about work ethic, persistence, and determination.”

Outside of class, Tim says his favorite experience at Michigan Tech was spending Winter Carnival with his friends each year.

Tim’s advice to students is: “Take advantage of everything you can at MTU and any other institutions you are associated with: clubs, groups, volunteer opportunities—you never know what doors will open for you when you get involved in things. Lean into life, don't be an observer!”

We welcome Tim Hartwig ‘97 as a new member of the Alumni Board of Directors. Tim’s six-year term begins July 1, 2018
