A Healthier Michigan mentioned Winter Carnival in a list of upcoming 2023 Michigan winter festivals. 2023 Winter Carnival is happening Feb 8-11.

The Los Angeles Times mentioned Michigan Tech in a story about former Husky Pheonix Copley’s poised goaltending with the LA Kings. 

The story was picked up by Yahoo! News, and called Copley’s performance “an early and special present from a North Pole resident.”

Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Blended Learning Course

Earn your American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification in a three-day intensive training course coming to the Michigan Tech SDC Pool on Jan. 6-8.

The certification includes Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR/AED certifications and all training materials. All participants must be 15 years of age or older by Jan. 6 (documentation required). Required water skills include the ability to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes and complete a timed event in which participants retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 7-10 feet and swim 20 yards with the object.

Online training prerequisites must be completed by the first day of classroom instruction. The instructor will contact class participants with online course information and directions. Class size is limited. Registration is open now and closes Thursday (Dec. 29) at 11:59 p.m. Cost is $200 per participant.

MTU Archives Winter Break Hours and Closure Dates

The Michigan Tech Archives’ reading room is currently closed to patrons until Jan. 1. Normal appointment hours, which are Monday through Thursday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., will resume with limited availability Jan. 2 through Jan. 5. Regular appointment hours will resume on Jan. 9.

Remote research requests may be submitted via copper@mtu.edu, but responses may be delayed during the closure.

ChE Offices Closed for the Holidays

In observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the Department of Chemical Engineering (ChE) offices will be closed next week (Dec. 26-30). We will reopen on Jan. 2.
