Bernard Family Clock Tower Bell Ringing Event Monday

The Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement will host a bell ringing event at the William J. Bernard Jr. Family Clock Tower on Monday (Aug. 29) between 7:30 and 8 a.m. to mark the start of the new academic year. Coffee and donuts will be served.

Located between the Memorial Union and R. L. Smith Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics Buildings, the 37-foot clock tower was erected in 2018 following a generous donation from the family of Bill ’69 and Ilene Bernard. The Bernards have also established the William J. Bernard Jr. Family Endowed Scholarship Fund to benefit students.

The ringing of the 37-inch diameter cast bronze bell will be the first of many moving forward as a tradition is launched to commemorate special occasions on campus such as Commencement, Winter Carnival, Homecoming, K-Day and athletic events.

All are welcome to attend Monday’s event.
