Cross Country, Track and Field Coaching Updates Announced

Updates to the coaching staff for the 2022-23 athletic season include promoting Robert Young to assistant head coach after one season as an assistant coach for both cross country and track and field.

"Coach Young joined our team last year and brought with him a wealth of very hands-on skills for race tactics and metal prep," said Kristina Owen, Tech's cross country and track and field coach. "His outsized contribution to our team over the course of the year is reflected in his new title. He is one of the reasons we were so successful last season and I am thrilled to welcome his return and the next step in his coaching career."

Luke Moore, '22 (BioSci) has been hired as graduate assistant coach following a distinguished career as a student-athlete for the Huskies.

Michigan Tech's cross country season steps off Friday, Aug. 26, at a scrimmage hosted by Northern Michigan University. For more information, see the Michigan Tech Huskies website.

In Print

Tim Stone (SS, GLRC), '21, a master's student in industrial heritage and archaeology, Don Lafreniere (SS/GLRC) and Rose Hildebrandt, '19, (CLS) have published an article titled "Deep Mapping the Daily Spaces of Children and Youth in the Industrial City" in Historical Methods: A Journal of Quantitative and Interdisciplinary History. The article employs a deep mapping approach to increase our understanding of the social, spatial and temporal relationships children and youth shared with the industrial city as it grew and evolved. The paper models children's interactions with built and social environments in the city and uses spatial analysis to illuminate the hazardous environments that children experienced throughout the day. The paper leans on data created by public contributors to the Keweenaw Time Traveler project.
