Fiscal Year 2023 Fringe Benefit Rates

The Office of Naval Research has recently approved Michigan Tech’s Fiscal Year 2023 Fringe Benefit rates, effective July 1, 2022. The rate agreement can be found at Michigan Tech's Research Facts and Figures webpage.

Beginning July 1, these rates will be applied to all funds, including active sponsored projects. Effective immediately, these rates will be used for Sponsored Programs proposal budgeting.

In accordance with the Fiscal Year 2023 approved fringe benefit rate agreement, the rates effective July 1 are as follows:

  • Regular Non-Student Employees Rate — 42.6%
  • Summer/Additional Comp Rate — 20.2%
  • Graduate Student Rate — 8.4%
  • Temporary Employees Rate — 10.0%
  • Undergraduate Student Rate — 0%

Marine Technology News mentioned Michigan Tech in a story about the placement of three research buoys in Lake Michigan — near North Manitou Island, near Greilickville in West Bay, and near East Bay Park in East Bay.

The buoys are a collaboration between Tech and Northwestern Michigan College. They will measure water temperature at multiple depths; wind speed and direction; and wave height and direction.

Xue’s research used advanced climate modeling with a 3D hydrodynamic model to simulate the lakes more accurately.

The Mining Journal mentioned Michigan Tech in a story on a newly published book that explores the origins of iconic U.P. foods such as the pasty, cudighi and fudge. 

The story mentions the pasty’s history of being served to students at Tech and Northern Michigan University.

Michigan Tech alumnus Al Hardman was the subject of a feature story in the Ludington Daily News.

Hardman is being inducted posthumously into the Mason County Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of his achievements in sled dog racing.
