Institute of Materials Processing (IMP)
The Institute of Materials Processing manages a suite of capabilities available to the university community to support multidisciplinary materials research, teaching, project-based learning, and innovation. In particular, IMP facilities include:
- Pilot scale metal casting (foundry): melting capabilities for steel, iron, copper, and aluminum alloys. Sand, chem-bond, and investment casting are available.
- Deformation processing lab: 550 ton extrusion press, rolling mill, and rotary swaging
- Powder processing labs: Unidirectional powder press, cold and hot isostatic pressing (CIP and HIP), environmental-controlled glove boxes for powder preparation and processing
- Furnaces for high temperature processing and heat treatment
