In addition to collections gathered over four centuries, the library has had 200 years of legal deposit, allowing the university to claim a copy of every book published in Ireland and the UK. It is also home to an extensive collection of maps, music and manuscripts, the most famous being the legendary Book of Kells. The Old Library, one of Ireland’s most iconic buildings, celebrates its tercentenary in 2012. Over 500,000 visitors come to enjoy the Library every year, to see the Book of Kells Exhibition, and to experience the Long Room. As the sole College library for over 200 years, it was the place of study for many of Trinity’s most famous alumni and is one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions
