After you've identified your program and host university, your next step is to fill out an application with Michigan Tech. The steps below will guide you through the application process.

Application Checklist
For all Michigan Tech Study Abroad applications, submit the following items to the International Programs and Services (IPS) by the appropriate semester deadline.
- Michigan Tech Study Abroad Application
- Dean of Students Recommendation
- Faculty/Advisors Recommendation (2 are needed from either Faculty, Advisors, or both)*
*Faculty or advisor(s) will return the forms to IPS.
Complete the student section and obtain approval with signatures from your advisor. Return the original form to the IPS office.
Michigan Tech Faculty-Led Programs may have different requirements.
Step 2
Apply to your host school, e.g.: USAC, AustraLearn, JCMU, Univeristy of Strathclyde, etc. after being accepted by Michigan Tech Study Abroad.
Step 3
Attend mandatory workshops/information sessions for further required paperwork.
Travel Discount Card
IPS is an issuing office of the International Student Identity Card (ISIC).
The ISIC cards is the premier discount and identity document for students. To qualify for your International Student ID card, you must be currently enrolled as a full-time degree seeking student at an accredited institution. Continuing education, language school, and non-degree seeking students are not eligible. More than an ID card, they also offer:
- Discounts to more than 33,000 locations in 103 countries
- Mobile phone and a calling card communications package
- Travel insurance plan
- Emergency help line
Any currently enrolled, full-time degree seeking student at Michigan Tech student can purchase an ISIC card for $22. You do not need to be enrolled in a study abroad program. Complete an ISICÂ application and request your Tech Express photo be submitted to the Study Abroad Office (for ISIC card). NOTE: Michigan Tech students can also request your photo from Tech Express to be forwarded to the international university or partner program, if necessary.
