Campus Community Parking Permits

ALL student, staff, and faculty vehicles MUST purchase a parking permit in order to park on University property.  To obtain a parking permit, please click on the appropriate link below for further instruction.

Student parking permit decals are valid from September 1st through August 31st of each academic school year. 

Faculty/Staff parking permit hang tags are valid from January 1st through December 31st of each year.

General Parking:  $20 

Silver lots are now called General Parking.  All students, graduate students, faculty, and staff may obtain a General Parking permit that is valid only for parking in lots 23, 24, 30A, and 95.  

Residential housing students will be restricted to lot 24 for overnight parking.

Residential Housing Students & Waitlist

Residential Housing Students: September 1 through August 31

Residential Housing parking is for those students living in campus University housing.  Resident parking lots are restricted to assigned parking only, at all times, seven days per week. 

Student parking permit decals are valid from September 1st through August 31st of each academic school year.  

Waitlist 

Availability is based on housing assignment for lots 04, 10, 17, and 21.  The waitlist is a 2-step process.  

  1. First you must register your vehicle and then add yourself to a waitlist(s) to select what lot(s) you would like to be considered for. The initial assignment/allotment will be made August 14 and you will be notified via your Tech email account.  
  2. The second step will be that you will need to exercise your option for accepting the lot assignment   If you choose only one lot for waitlist & the lot fills prior to your opportunity for selection comes up, you will not be automatically assigned to another lot.  You will need to select General Parking (the $20 permit), add yourself to another lot waitlist, or choose to not bring a vehicle.

Residence Halls:  $100
  1. Resident hall vehicle parking is assigned to lots 4, 7E, 10, 17, and 21. Only residential housing staff and graduate students living in DHH will be able to park in Lot 7E. You may purchase your Resident Hall parking permit decal online.
  2. Guests of residential housing may obtain a Visitor Parking permit online or at Transportation Services.  This will allow your guest to park in Lot 26 overnight.
  3. Resident students may opt for a General Parking permit for a fee of $20 that valid only for parking in lots 23, 24, 30A, and 95. Overnight parking is restricted to Lot 24, Resident Hall area only.

Parking for the Michigan Tech Apartments is available to residents only, and is assigned by priority.  You may purchase your Resident parking permit decal online.

Parking priority depends on which apartment you are a resident of:

  1. For Daniell Heights apartments: Contract holder first, then co-tenant.  There is only one parking space allotted per apartment.  Additional vehicles will be assigned to the overflow parking area.
  2. For the Hillside Place apartments and the Hagen, Honors, Larson, Lockhart, and Vivian houses: By class/availability.

Commuter Students

Commuter Students: September 1 through August 31
  1. Commuter student parking is designated to all undergraduate University students who drive from their off campus residence to the University.
  2. Commuter students may purchase a green commuter lot decal for $100, valid in parking lots 9, 23, 24, 26, 29, 30A, 32, and 95.  This decal may be purchased online.
  3. Registration for a 2nd vehicle will be reduced to $75.  To register a 3rd vehicle, the regular fee of $100 will apply.
  4. Commuter students may opt for a General Parking permit for a fee of $20 that valid only for parking in lots 23, 24, 30A, and 95.

Grad Students

Grad Students: September 1 through August 31
  1. Graduate student parking is reserved for all graduate level University students who drive from their off campus residence to the University.
  2. Graduate students may purchase a purple graduate student parking decal for $100 which allows parking in lots 5, 23, 24, 26, 29, 30A, 32, 34, and 95.  This parking permit decal may be purchased online.
  3. Registration for a 2nd vehicle will be reduced to $75.  To register a 3rd vehicle, the regular fee of $100 will apply.
  4. Graduate students may opt for a General Parking permit for a fee of $20 that valid only for parking in lots 23, 24, 30A, and 95.

Faculty/Staff

Faculty/Staff Permits: Valid January 1 through December 31

All employees must register their vehicles and obtain a parking permit hangtag by January 1.  Faculty/Staff parking hangtags may be purchased online or at Transportation Services. During fall open enrollment, parking hangtags may be paid for by payroll deduction through TechSelect.

Golden Husky Monthly Passes

Golden Husky Monthly Passes:  $40/month


A limited number of Golden Husky Passes will be offered for monthly parking in Visitor Lot #27.  All students, faculty, and staff are required to have a SILVER parking permit in order to obtain a Golden Husky Pass.

Motorcycles, Mopeds, and Snowmobiles

Motorcycles, Mopeds, and Snowmobiles:  $25


1. ALL vehicles of this type must be registered online with Transportation Services.
2. Motorcycles and mopeds may park east of Lot 12, in lots 23 and 24, or in regular motor vehicle parking areas based on registration status.  
3. The University’s snowmobile parking areas are near the lakeshore snowmobile trail (at the east end of Lot 34) for commuter students and Lot 10 for residence hall students.
4. Michigan Tech prohibits operating snowmobiles on University property without the written consent of the director of Transportation Services, except along the lakefront trail.

Bicycles

1. Register your bicycles at Public Safety and Police Services on MacInnes Drive.  You will need to provide the make, model, color, and serial number for registration.  There is NO registration fee
