Biography

Kevin Trewartha is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences and the Department of Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology, and is the director of the Aging, Cognition, and Action Laboratory at Michigan Tech. Dr. Trewartha received his PhD in psychology from Concordia University, Montreal, QC, Canada in 2012, with a focus on cognitive neuroscience of aging.

Dr. Trewartha’s research uses a blend of methods from cognitive psychology, movement science, and neuroscience aimed at broadening our understanding of age-related changes in cognitive functioning and exploring the impact of those changes on the way in which we interact with the environment. For example, how do age-related declines in memory and cognitive control impact our ability to interact with objects in our environment, or learn new motor skills? The ultimate goal of this research is to understand the complex interaction between cognitive and motor control processes and how these processes contribute to declines in functional independence in later life.
