Volunteer to Judge Design Expo 2022

Save the date! Michigan Tech's Design Expo 2022 will be held in person this spring, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 21 at the Van Pelt and Opie Library.

Now’s the time to consider serving as a distinguished judge at Design Expo.

“We welcome judges from various professions, disciplines and backgrounds," says Briana Tucker, Enterprise Program coordinator.

Hosted annually by the Enterprise Program and the College of Engineering, Design Expo highlights hands-on, discovery-based learning at Michigan Tech. More than 1,000 students in Enterprise and Senior Design teams showcase their work and compete for awards, allowing students to gain valuable experience and direct exposure to industry-relevant problems.

In-person judging at the library on the day of the event usually takes about an hour, depending on the number of volunteers. Prior to the in-person event on April 21, judges will also gain access to a digital gallery of student-created videos to preview prior to judging.

Please visit Michigan Tech’s Design Expo Judges and Guests page for more information and to register to judge by April 8.

Who should judge? Faculty and staff, community members, alumni interested in seeing the accomplishments of today’s undergraduate students, those looking to network with Michigan Tech faculty and students, industry representatives interested in sponsoring a future project, or anyone with interest in supporting our students as they engage in hands-on, discovery-based learning.

Interested in other on-campus showcase events? The Michigan Tech Undergraduate Research Symposium is coming up on March 25, and the Computing[MTU] Showcase takes place April 4-6.

Questions? Feel free to contact Briana Tucker from Michigan Tech’s Enterprise Program Office at bctucker@mtu.edu.

No C-Cubed Luncheon Today

Due to spring break, there will not be a C-Cubed Luncheon today (March 10). The luncheon will resume next week on Thursday (March 17).

The C-Cubed Luncheon buffet menus are created by executive chef Eric Karvonen and prepared by Karvonen and his culinary team. As the name suggests, the meals are meant to foster conversation, community and collegiality. Attendees may bring their lunch instead of purchasing the buffet. Fruit-infused water, coffee, tea, cookies and fruit are available free to all attendees.

The buffet lunch is $12 per person. Cash, credit cards and gift cards are accepted. Gift cards can be purchased in the Memorial Union office, MUB 101. You can submit C-Cubed feedback using this Google form. To join the C-Cubed Google group and receive weekly menus, email business-support@mtu.edu.

Judges Needed for 2022 Graduate Research Colloquium

The Graduate Student Government (GSG) is seeking judges for this year's Graduate Research Colloquium (GRC). The GRC is an annual event where graduate students from across campus present their research in either an oral or poster presentation. These presentations are judged by faculty whose field of expertise matches the research topic in order for grad students to get feedback on how to improve presentation skills and help them prepare for upcoming conferences.

This year, the GRC will be held March 29 and March 30. Poster presentations will occur March 29 in the MUB Ballroom from 5-7 p.m. Oral presentations will be given virtually on both days of the colloquium; all 12-minute talks will be livestreamed (no pre-recorded video presentations) and followed by a Q&A session. All judges are also invited to attend the awards banquette on March 30 starting at 6 p.m. Please help us in making this event a success!

Sign up for judging. You will be assigned to an hour-long judging session based on your form responses once scheduling starts.

If you have any questions, please contact Shreya Joshi at gsg-research@mtu.edu.
