The Human Resources Office located at the Lakeshore Center will close at 11:30 a.m today (July 29) for a departmental meeting. It will reopen this afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

Shane Mueller Presenting on Human-AI Teaming

Shane Mueller (CLS) will be presenting at the National Academy of Sciences/Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Human-AI Teaming Through Warfighter-Centered Designs Workshop this afternoon (July 29) at 2:30 p.m.

Mueller's presentation is titled "Human-centered approaches for explainable AI."

Students and staff in MTU’s geological and mining engineering, forestry, and wildlife programs were mentioned in an MLive article on “bat gates.” The Michigan Tech staff and students are working with Bat Conservation International to see if using mining ventilation techniques to reduce the temperature by a few degrees at the Carp Lake Mine hibernacula site will impact the bats’ white-nose syndrome survival rates.

Graduate student Amanda Singer presented the paper "First Year Engineering Student Advice for Succeeding in Online Courses" at ASEE this week with co-author Michelle Jarvie Eggart (EF). Singer earned her M.S. in Environmental Engineering in spring 2020 and is starting her Ph.D. in Engineering Education at Ohio State this fall.

Reminders

Get Vaccinated, Continue Washing and Sanitizing Hands

While Michigan Tech is at Health and Safety Level One, face coverings and daily symptom monitoring are no longer required. However, those who wish to continue wearing a face covering are encouraged to do so.

The MTU Flex Task Force also encourages University community members to get their vaccinations and continue with handwashing and hand-sanitizing practices.

Doctoral candidate Joshua Gonzalez (KIP) will defend his Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology dissertation tomorrow (July 30) at 12:30 p.m. His defense will take place via Zoom. All are welcome to attend virtually.

Gonzalez's dissertation is titled "Short-Term Fasting and Autonomic Control."
