Reminder

Host a Hands-On Project Session for Future Engineers

Summer Youth Programs invites Michigan Tech departments and faculty to host Applied Project Sessions (APS) for our upcoming Engineering Scholars Program (ESP) and Women in Engineering (WIE) programs, our flagship engineering experiences at SYP.

Program Overview

  • ESP and WIE are competitive-admission programs wherein high-achieving high school students from diverse backgrounds explore various engineering disciplines. Running for over 50 years, these programs connect students to the vast engineering programs and research opportunities on campus and inspire the next generation of Huskies.

  • This summer, the ESP and WIE programs will run concurrently from June 21-26.

The APS Experience
We are seeking engineering-focused sessions that provide students with high-impact, technical experiences. These sessions are most effective when students work toward one larger engineering design throughout the week or complete a distinct project during each daily session.

Session Logistics

  • Student Cohort: Expect to work with the same dedicated group of 12-15 students all week.

  • Schedule: Monday-Wednesday from 1:15-3:15 p.m. and Thursday-Friday from 8:30-10:45 a.m.

  • The Showcase: During the final two days, students will use part of their session time to create a trifold poster. Their work will be featured at the Applied Engineering Showcase on Friday afternoon.

  • Departmental Support: To recognize the instructional time and materials required, participating sessions will receive a $950 department supplement.

Interested in hosting a session or discussing a project idea? Please contact the Summer Youth Programs team at syplogic@mtu.edu or 906-487-2219.
